Gunther has been WWE’s hottest heel as of late, but he still doesn’t have a date at WrestleMania yet.
WWE’s WrestleMania plans have changed several times, but some of it appears to have been out of their control.
Gunther is one of those cases. According to BodySlam+, The Ring General was meant to be facing Rey Mysterio in Las Vegas next month, presumably in a retirement matchup.
The legendary luchador is still struggling with the broken ribs he suffered in a match on RAW with Austin Theory back in January.
While he isn’t totally out of WrestleMania 42, the clock is ticking and time is running out.
Gunther faced Dragon Lee on RAW a couple of weeks ago and Mysterio was originally planned to save his protegé. However, he was not medically cleared to do so.

At the moment, Gunther does not have a match with a month to go and after retiring John Cena, Goldberg and AJ Styles, that seems a waste of momentum.
Seth Rollins finds himself in a similar boat. The Visionary looked locked to face Bron Breakker, but his hernia injury at the beginning of February has put him on the shelf and in a race against time to make WrestleMania too.
Rollins is now stuck carrying the feud out with Paul Heyman after returning from his own injury.
Could someone like a Chris Jericho step in and save the day at WrestleMania and face Rollins? His WWE return is still very much on the cards, it’s a question of when his frozen AEW contract will end.
