There’s been a lot of talk about John Cena perhaps being the greatest of all-time as his WWE run comes to a close, even from Triple H.
As the sun sets on his near 25-year WWE career, Cena has been billed as the greatest of all-time – even by Triple H while introducing him in Boston – and he won his 17th world title, setting the record for most reigns ever in the company.
Cena would certainly appear on many Mount Rushmore’s depending on who you ask, but is he the greatest of all-time?
WWE’s current head honcho was recently featured in a video on “TED,” where he was asked some word association questions. The first name he was posed with was his DX partner, Shawn Michaels.
“Greatest in-ring performer of all-time,” said Triple H about the leader of NXT, a sentiment many fans would share.
Of course, how you interpret the greatest of all-time is a never-ending debate. Is it the best wrestler inside the ropes? Is it the star who sold the most pay-per-views and tickets? Is it the best promo? The best character? The answer should be a mixture of all the above, but it’s an objective discussion.
The Game goes on to name another great in another category.
“Greatest big man of all-time and probably one of the most — for me at least, anyways — one of the most respected performers ever,” he replied when The Undertaker’s name was mentioned before being asked about Stephanie.
“That’s my rock [about Stephanie]. You know, a lot of people say that. We tell it to a lot of people in our world as we get interns coming up, and Nick Khan, our President, and I speak to those interns, they’ll often ask us, ‘What is the most important decision you’ll ever make in your life?’ It’s your spouse, for sure, to me.
“And, you know, we tell them, ‘Choose wisely,’ because it can be the greatest thing in the world or it can be the worst thing in the world for you if you choose poorly. And, for me, luckily, I chose well and hopefully she thinks she chose well.”
Triple H had a legendary career himself and is now in charge of the creative within WWE. As one of, if not the most influential man in the business right now, his opinion is certainly an interesting one.
