WWE’s Missed Opportunity: Failing to Capitalize on Bron Breakker’s Momentum

When Bron Breakker stepped into the spotlight on Monday Night Raw, he exuded confidence and charisma, embodying the persona of a Superstar ready to ascend to the top of the card. With the World Heavyweight Championship draped over his shoulder, he appeared poised to take over the main event scene, particularly in the wake of Seth Rollins’ injury. Breakker’s demand for Raw general manager Adam Pearce to say “please” in exchange for the title belt was a standout moment, solidifying his position as a force to be reckoned with.

However, the momentum was short-lived, as Breakker was pulled from the Battle Royal to determine the challenger for CM Punk at Saturday Night’s Main Event. This decision not only halted his ascent but also diminished his aura, leaving him “neutered” and without a chance to reassert his dominance. The lack of a post-match attack or revenge storyline further exacerbated the issue, leaving Breakker’s character without a clear direction.

A Creative Misstep

The WWE’s creative team missed a crucial opportunity to propel Breakker into stardom, instead opting to prioritize the ongoing Bloodline saga and Jey Uso’s storyline. While Uso’s work has been excellent, and the Bloodline story has been a significant factor in WWE’s success since 2022, the decision to sideline Breakker was a misstep. By not capitalizing on the momentum generated by Breakker’s spear and attack on Rollins, the WWE failed to create a new legitimate main event star.

Breakker’s eventual coronation as champion is likely still on the horizon, given Triple H’s tendency to stick to scheduled creative decisions. However, the repeated missed opportunities may ultimately harm Breakker’s chances of reaching his full potential. The WWE’s decision to have Breakker listen to Paul Heyman, rather than allowing him to forge his own path, also undermines his character’s autonomy and intelligence.

Rebuilding Momentum

To rectify the situation, the WWE needs to reheat Breakker’s character and provide him with a clear direction. Allowing him to operate independently of Heyman’s guidance could be a step in the right direction, enabling Breakker to prove himself as a capable and intelligent competitor. By doing so, the WWE can reestablish Breakker as a legitimate main event star and create a new, exciting storyline.
